Henry Cavill is Leaving The Witcher, and Geralt is Being Recast

Henry Cavill retires as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. The actor has announced his resignation from the role of The Witcher’s main character after three seasons, effective with the fourth season, which is the one that follows the one presently in development. Liam Hemsworth will take up the position in its place.

He writes on Instagram: My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventures; alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take up the White Wolf’s mantle.

As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such an incredible depth to him; enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.

And so, with an almost medieval grace, Henry Cavill says goodbye to a role that has been perhaps among the most popular so far in terms of videogame characters revived in live action. Could Liam Hemsworth be a worthy replacement?
