Marvel Studios’ Phase Five commenced with the release of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ with too much fanfare. However, the film has received disappointing critical reviews and achieved the dubious distinction of being the MCU’s worst-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes, along with ‘Eternals.’ Despite this, the film performed well at the box office, owing to Marvel’s brand power, at the movie’s opening, But the film saw a huge drop on the second domestic weekend.

Despite the pretty good response at the opening weekend, Quantumania saw a 69% (Nice) decline at the box office, the worst decline ever for an MCU film after Black Widow, which declined 67.8%, and Thor: Love and Thunder with 67.7 percent.

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ opened on February 17, 2023, in over 4,300 theaters in the USA, earning $46 million on its opening day (including $17.5 million from Thursday previews) and $104 million on its opening weekend, making it the highest debut for the franchise. 

The film has also grossed $167 million domestically and $193 million overseas, bringing its total worldwide box office collection to $ 363 million. This was a positive start, but with a production budget estimated to be $200 million and an expensive marketing campaign, the film needs to earn $475-500 million to break even.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania received mostly mixed reviews, with a 6.5/10 rating on IMDb based on over 63,000 votes and a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 355 critic reviews. The film’s critical response has been a cause of concern for the production team, and the upcoming weeks will be crucial in determining its long-term success.
