Disney has again come under fire after a new set of images were leaked from the set of Snow White starring Rachel Zegler & Gal Gadot, an official remake of the classic 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Disney initially responded to releasing live-action set photos for their upcoming film Snow White by denying their authenticity, claiming they were “fake.” However, the entertainment giant later reversed its statement and clarified that the pictures were indeed from the production but were not official photos.
The controversy began when the Daily Mail published photos depicting actors of various genders, ethnicities, and heights. This led to a wave of conservative backlash against the cast. When approached for comment, a Disney spokesperson dismissed the images as fake and demanded a correction from the Mail.
However, Disney’s public relations team later retracted their earlier statement, admitting that the photos were legitimate but not official promotional images. They attributed the initial denial to a misunderstanding.
The Mail, too, made an error in their initial report by wrongly identifying Rachel Zegler and Andrew Burnap as the stars in the photos. The publication later issued a correction, clarifying that the individuals depicted were stand-ins rather than the actual actors.
Prominent figures like Tomi Lahren from Fox News and Robby Starbuck voiced their disapproval on social media. Lahren criticized the casting decisions, suggesting that featuring one little person while excluding others was not a step towards greater sensitivity. Starbucks mocked the film’s attempt at diversity, expressing disbelief at the transformation of Snow White’s character and portraying the seven dwarves as “hipster pedos” and individuals from Portland.
This is not the first time Disney has been criticized for being woke, Their last two remakes, The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan & Wendy, were met with much criticism from the internet.
