Alec Baldwin has Filed a Lawsuit over the Fatal 'Rust' Shooting to 'Clear His Name

After the passing of the “Rust” director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, Alec Baldwin and the family of Halyna came to an understanding a few weeks ago. Baldwin subsequently filed a lawsuit against a production crew member because he felt the incidents had negatively impacted his reputation. He has admitted that he did not commit the act for which he has been held primarily accountable.

Alec Baldwin accuses RUST crew members of negligence

More than a year after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died from a gunshot the interpreter had in his hand that also injured the director Joel Souza. Alec Baldwin has filed a lawsuit against the gunsmith and several crew members who made the movie “Rust” for negligence.

Baldwin claims in the complaint, which CBS has picked up, that he was not accountable for the gun’s safety and was unaware that it was loaded with bullets. After believing himself to be the primary cause of what occurred, he also collects money to “clean his reputation of him.”

The gunsmith, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, “failed to carefully inspect the bullets or the gun,” according to the lawsuit filed on Friday. She also says that before giving the gun to Baldwin, assistant director David Halls “scrutinized the gun but declared that the gun was safe.”

The 67-year-old actor claims that Sarah Zachry, a prop, “did not report that Gutierrez-Reed had been acting recklessly off-set and was a safety concern to everyone around her.” Although FBI forensic evidence suggested otherwise, the actor maintains that he never fired the trigger.

Alec “has been wrongly viewed as the perpetrator of this tragedy,” according to Baldwin’s lawsuit. The lawsuit states, “He has suffered physically and emotionally from the pain caused by these events.” Not a day goes by that he doesn’t reflect on what happened that day and feels pain.

Because a “review of available police reports did not show any convincing evidence that the firearm was intentionally loaded with live ammunition on set,” authorities ultimately characterized the incident as an accident.

Baldwin’s family and Hutchins agreed last month, and the actor declared that shooting would resume.
