House of The Dragon: Milly Alcock defends Rhaenyra’s relationship with Daemon

Daemon and Rhaenyra,

House of the Dragon shows the origins of the Targaryen dynasty, the ancestors of Daenerys. It is based on the novel Fire and Blood, which chronicles House Targaryen of Valyria’s invasion of Westeros. About 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, they captured the whole continent of Westeros.

Inbreeding isn’t precisely new to Game of Thrones mythology, particularly in House Targaryen. Actress Milly Alcock defended, in an interview with the New York Post, her character relationship with her Uncle Daemon. “It’s complicated. I think Daemon is good for Rhaenyra,” she said:

“Whether or not he is the right thing for her, time will tell, Rhaenyra is at an age where she can’t distinguish between platonic, romantic love and lust .”

Milly added that the character “hasn’t lived long enough, nor has she had these experiences.” Still, Rhaenyra understands that, She feels for her uncle as a way for her to learn what it means to be in love.

In the 4th episode, A possible sexual tension was seen between Rhaenyra and Daemon. Though, Rhaenyra ends up losing her virginity to Ser Criston Cole.

“I think she wants to be seen, but Daemon and Criston are the only two people who actually see her,” Milly said. “They see her for different reasons: Daemon has the upper hand, while Cole turns her on a little – I think she really likes him .”
