Harry Potter: JK Rowling Ironically Calls Out Boycott Trolls on Twitter

Harry Potter JK Rowling Boycott

Recently, Warner Bros announced that a new Harry Potter TV series is in production. Each season of the show will follow the plot of one of the books, with JK Rowling serving as executive producer.

However, since the announcement of Rowling’s involvement, certain groups of people have criticized her for making comments they consider transphobic and have even threatened to boycott the series. But, despite the potential backlash, Rowling appears unfazed and even made light of the situation on Twitter.

JK Rowling Ironically Calls Out Boycott Trolls on Twitter

While the controversy surrounding Rowling’s comments is nothing new, her ironic response to the boycott threats has generated a lot of buzz. She posted, “Dreadful news, which I feel duty bound to share. Activists in my mentions are trying to organize yet another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter TV show. As forewarned is forearmed, I’ve taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne.”

Why Is JK Rowling Getting Boycotted?

In 2020, Rowling was accused of making transphobic remarks on Twitter, sparking a heated debate online. She defended her stance by arguing that hormone therapy and medical interventions could negatively affect young people, potentially impacting their fertility and sensual function.

While people of particular groups disagreed with her opinion and planned to boycott her, including the main cast of Harry Potter, i.e., Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Daniel Radcliffe ((Harry Potter), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley); JK Rowling maintains that her concerns are genuine and that she stands by her opinion.

Despite the backlash she’s received, Rowling continues to be involved in the Harry Potter franchise, including the new TV series. She seems to take the criticism in stride, and her recent tweet suggests that she won’t let it affect her enjoyment of the show’s success.
