Renowned actor Willem Dafoe, who has gained fame for portraying eccentric characters, is promoting his upcoming film Inside (2023). During an interview, Dafoe also discussed his iconic role as the villainous Green Goblin in the Spider-Man franchise.

Having essayed the role of Norman Osborne, a.k.a Green Goblin in the original Spider-Man trilogy, and then reprising the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Dafoe expressed his willingness to return to the role if given the right opportunity. However, he emphasized that everything must be appropriate for him to consider reprising the character.

If everything was right, sure, I mean, that’s a great role. I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both,” Dafoe said.

Dafoe, a four-time Oscar nominee, spoke about the challenging nature of the Green Goblin character, which he called “a crazy role.” He also appreciated that the role allowed him to play a dual role in the original trilogy and the recent film, making each experience unique.

Apart from his potential return as the Green Goblin, Dafoe has much to look forward to in the coming years. His next film, Inside (2023), is a psychological thriller directed by Vasilis Katsoupis in which he portrays the character of Nemo, an art thief. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last month.

Additionally, Dafoe has two upcoming projects with acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos, known for movies like The Lobster and The Favourite. The first of these films, Poor Things (2023), will feature Dafoe alongside a star-studded cast, including Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Margaret Qualley, and Christopher Abbott. The second film, And, has yet to set a release date, but it will also feature an ensemble cast, including Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley, Jesse Plemmons, Hong Chau, and Joe Alwyn.
