Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” Trailer has over 1.5 Million dislikes

The Little Mermaid, the live-action adaptation of the Disney cartoon classic, released its first teaser, which is already controversial. The numbers, namely those that can be seen underneath the promo film that Walt Disney Studios has posted on YouTube, speak louder than the words.

A sizable portion of the audience apparently not in the favor of the new The Little Mermaid movie trailer.

As is well known, dislikes can no longer be seen on YouTube. This may be fixed by using a Google Chrome extension that lets you see precisely how many dislikes each video has received once installed.

According to the screenshot above, we have over a million people who despise The Little Mermaid trailer. This despite having “just” 500 thousand likes or such. In fact, there are more than 1.5 million dislikes, and that number is only expected to grow.

The cause? It is not stated explicitly, and even the comments (mainly sarcastic rather than aggressive) do not express the problem clearly. That is, the new movie’s and the new trailer’s nature, which many believe to be “woke,” beginning with the primary role given to black actress Halle Bailey (in the original, Ariel was white).
