On July 21, 2023, Oppenheimer, a new Christopher Nolan film, will open in theatres. Cillian Murphy will play Robert Oppenheimer, an American scientist whose research resulted in the development of the atomic bomb. Robert Downey Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, the man who founded the American Atomic Energy Commission and is one of the various actors in the Oppenheimer ensemble cast. The British filmmaker recently gave a lengthy interview with Total Film, during which he praised both actors.

We all know that Robert Downey Jr. is one of the great movie stars. It is easy to forget that he is also one of the greatest actors of all time. Watching him lose himself in that performance and ultimately lose himself in character in this way was just an incredible reminder of just what a fantastic actor he is.

Christopher Nolan also claimed that he tried to write his stories without actors in mind. Still, he was looking for an opportunity to work with Cillian Murphy in a leading role.

“I’ve always known since I first met him – however many years ago it is now, almost 20 years – that he is one of the great actors, not just of his generation, but of all time.” “And I’ve been waiting for the project, and I know he has too, where we can collaborate with him as the lead, and I could put the most enormous weight – cinematic weight – on his shoulders, and watch him carry that burden. It was such a thrill to be able to call Cillian, and say, ‘This is it.'”
