A member of the Morning Show family died, and Jennifer Aniston is sad about it.
Erik Gunnar Mortensen, who helped with the camera on the Emmy-winning show, died in a motorcycle accident on a Southern California highway on Monday. No other cars were involved, and they are still being looked into. He was 39 years old.
Around 6:40 p.m., the accident happened on Highway 74 between Hemet and Mountain Center. A press release from the coroner in Riverside County. says that Mortensen was snatched from the streets to Hemet Global Medical Center, where he died about an hour later.
Aniston, 53, paid tribute to Mortensen on Thursday by sharing photos of him with Lars, who was two years old, and his wife, Keely. On her Instagram Story.
“Gunnar Mortensen died suddenly and tragically last week. He was so skilled and dedicated at his job as a camera assistant.” She wrote, adding, “We’re going to miss you, Gunnar.” One of the bright spots on the set of @themorningshow.
The Golden Globe winner also posted a link to a GoFundMe page set up by Mortensen’s family “at this trying period” by his union, ICG Local 600″ Since then, more than $115,000 has been donated to the page.
“Local 600 is saddened by the death of Gunnar Mortensen. A camera assistant who died on July 4 from injuries he got in a motorcycle accident,” the union said in a statement. “Gunnar’s wife, Keely, and his 2-year-old son, Lars, are the only ones who will miss him. This GoFundMe page was set up by Local 600. in memory of Gunnar to help his family by raising money during this challenging time. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help out with a donation.
For thirteen years, Mortensen was a member of Local 600. Variety says he has been on the National Executive Board of the International Cinematographer’s Guild since 2013. And a co-chair of the Active Engagement Committee since 2017. He also taught camera workshops, the Annual Camera Assistant Field Day, and seminars.
Mortensen was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on November 10, 1982. “His bio says, “Even at that young age, he was hooked,” says. According to his IMDb, he fell in love with filmmaking when he saw a camera truck driving by for the 1992 comedy Ladybugs.
He started his career by making car commercials in Denver, Colorado. These include shows like The Real World, 90210, Sons of Anarchy, and Transparent, and movies like Jack. And Jill, Cooties, All the Money in the World, Hubie Halloween, and Yes Day.
