Fans of “Better Call Saul” have been torn between being happy about how great Season 6 was and being sad that the show is ending soon. As we get close to the last three episodes, the show’s creators, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould pull out all the stops. Gilligan will direct Episode 12, “Waterworks,” and Gould will be in charge of the August 15 series finale, “Saul Gone.” Gilligan and Gould will write the previous two chapters.
The second half of Season 6 also has a lot of guest stars. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will be back as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in Episode 11, called “Breaking Bad.” In Episode 10, “Nippy,” Gilligan and Gould got rid of all the main characters except Bob Odenkirk, who played Gene and channeled the ghost of his old role as Saul. Then Jim O’Heir from “Parks and Recreation” played the security guard Frank, Pat Healy from “Station 19” played the cab driver Jeff, and comedy legend Carol Burnett played Jeff’s mother, Marion.
But now, Odenkirk seems to have said that at least one of those exceptional guests will be back during a recent guest appearance in the Chicago Cubs broadcast booth.
Bob Odenkirk said that Carol Burnett’s Marion isn’t done yet.
Bob Odenkirk threw out the first pitch on Monday.a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also stopped by the broadcast booth to talk about baseball and “Better Call Saul.“Commenter Triples Alley quoted Odenkirk as saying, “Carol Burnett joins us for the last four episodes—well, she’s in a couple of them,” I won’t know which ones. Still, she’s in the show,” in a Reddit thread with lots of rumors about Marion’s possible return. That slip of the tongue seems to be a clear sign that she will come back in one of the last three parts.
There is room for her character to go in a different direction. Marion gave several hints in “Nippy” that she isn’t a weak old lady who is just scooting through her last years without a clue. Where she made sly remarks about famous people from Albuquerque. And bad crowds, implying that she knew more than she was saying.
Some Redditors thought that Marion could be the ex-wife of Cliff Main (Ed Begley Jr.) or the mother of Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), or Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn). Odenkirk recently added fuel to this fire in a YouTube Vanity Fair fan theory video. Odenkirk said, “She is related to someone you’ve met on the show. But it would take a while for you to figure that out.” Even so, it’s clear that her character is more important than her scenes in “Nippy” show, and it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Carol Burnett on “Better Call Saul.”
